Petition to repeal new Iowa voter laws: https://www.lwvia.org/petitions

Despite a historic presidential election turnout in 2020 with both candidates receiving more votes than any other candidate ever, Iowa is one of the 14 states that passed legislation in 2021 making it harder to vote, easier to alienate or disqualify voters and more difficult to administer. Please sign the online petition: https://www.lwvia.org/petitions

We urge Iowa lawmakers to repeal sections of Senate File 413 and Senate File 568 which were signed into law in 2021. We believe voting should be easy to do and less challenging to administer.

DC Statehood – In September, the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform held a hearing on H.R. 51, the Washington, D.C. Admission Act. This legislation would grant statehood to the residents of Washington D.C. Activists and organizers from D.C. showed up to support en masse. Read our blog about why this hearing is so important. And stay tuned for actions and other blogs about how to get involved in this effort.

More than 700,000 residents live in DC, which is more than that of Wyoming and Vermont, yet its residents still lack voting members in the U.S. House and Senate. Without these voting members, residents of DC are denied a voice in Congress to defend them from attacks on their own locally passed laws and citizen backed initiatives.
